Abstract

Koriiial aliphatic acids with more than seven carbon atoms undergo almost exclusively alpha bromination when treated according to Hell-Vollhard--Zelinsky. 2 Upon chlorination of such acids by the same procedure, we have found that a much larger amount of by-products, particularly products of disubstitution, is formed.
