Abstract

The best procedure was as follows: In a 1-liter, threenecked round-bottomed flask fitted with a stirrer and a reflux condenser were placed 0.50 mole of the appropriate alcohol, 0.50 mole of thiourea and 1.50 moles of hydrogen bromide as 48% hydrobromic acid (double these amounts of thiourea and hydrobromic acid were used for making hexamethylene and decamethylene dithiols).
