Abstract
N-Acetylbenzylamine was converted into w-acetamidotoluene-p-sulphonyl chloride by reaction with chlorosulphonic acid, using the method described by Smiles and Stewart6 for p- acetamidobenzenesulphonyl chloride. The acid chloride was hydrolysed by heating with water on a steam-bath for 1 hr, and the solution was then neutralized with sodium hydroxide and evaporated to dryness.
