Abstract
of 2 (R= benzyl) in 100-200 mL of THF was treated with 2 equiv of sodium hydride. The initially deep red solution was refluxed for 12 h and the solution was concentrated to dryness in vacuo. The yellow residue was dissolved in 50 mL of concentrated hydrochloric acid and 100 mL of ethanol, and the solution was refluxed for 24 h.
