Abstract

A number of 5-modified analogs of pyridoxol were found to be substrates of pyridoxine dehydrogenase. The enzyme, isolated from bakers' yeast by an improved method using DEAE-Sephadex chromatography, can readily accommodate an unbranched side chain, either saturated or unsaturated, Pyridoxol analogs were prepared with 5-vinyl by the Wittig reaction, and with 5-ethynyl by bromination and dehydrobromination of the 5-vinyl ...
