Abstract: The kinetics and mechanism of the permanganate ion oxidation of (E)-3-(2-thienyl)- 2-propenoates and (E)-343-thienyl)-2-propenoates have been studied at 418, 526, 584, and 660 nm in phosphate-buffered solutions (pH 6.83 i 0.03). The reaction is first order in permanganate ion and first order in substrate.
