Abstract
(0.5 mole) of magnesium turnings, 50 ml. of dry ether, and a small crystal of iodine, was slowly added 85 g.(0.54 mole) of bromobenzene dissolved in 100 ml. of ether. To the reagent thus prepared was added 38.0 g.(0.25 mole) of y-piperidinobutyronitriles dissolved in an equal volume of ether, and the reaction mixture was allowed to stand overnight.
