Abstract

Ina study of vasopressin proteolysis in cerebral synaptic membranes several linear fragments of this hormone which contain a cysteine residue were discovered [5]. It turned out that the peptides of the 4-8 and 4-9 sequence that contain a disulfide bond exhibit a very high level of neurotropic activity which exceeds by hundreds of times the activity of the whole hormone in tests involving a conditional passive avoidance reflex [6].
