Abstract

Abstract A facile iodine/water-mediated oxidation of the triple bond of o-alkynylaroyl compounds to furnish tricarbonyl compounds is reported. The reaction proceeds through the formation of isochromenol intermediates by the assistance of the neighbouring aroyl group.
