Abstract
Previous work in this Laboratory2,* has indicated that reactions of nucleophilic agents with halogenated ethylenes may proceed by at least two different mechanisms,;. e., either initial p- elimination to form an acetylenic intermediate followed by nucleophilic addition, or initial nucleophilic addition to form a saturated intermediate or an incipient carbanion followed by elimination of HX or X-, respectively.
