Abstract

New viologen derivatives having the various para-substituted benzophenone groups connected with a-(CHz) 3-linkage were effectively photoreduced by dimethyl sulfoxide by the intramolecular charge transfer complex formation between the viologen and benzophenone groups through effective stacking.
