Abstract

1, 2-Dihydroxy-tetramethyldisilane (2) has been synthesized by hydrolysis of 1, 2-dichloro- tetramethyldisilane (1) and characterized by IR, NMR, MS and X-ray structure analysis. Compound 2 exists in crystal form in two different conformations forming a characteristic two- dimensional network by H-bonding. The title compound is water soluble and has a high condensation tendency.
