Abstract

In a preliminary experiment, no aldehyde was ob-tained, but our pressure reaction vessel had begm to corrode. Reaction of the halide with sodium methoxide in methanol was unsuccessful, with sodium 1-pentoxide a small amount of the acetal was obtained along with 3, 3-dimethyl-l-chLoro-lb~-tene, while with sodium t-pentoxide a larger yield of the acetal resulted.
