Abstract
In aqueous solution substituted aromatic nitroso compounds react rapidly with glyoxylic acid to produce N-hydroxyformanilides and C02. The reaction is nearly quantitative for all nitroso aromatics investigated and serves as a convenient synthetic route to N-hydroxyformanilides.
