Abstract

The replacement of a benzene ring of a physiologically active compound by an isosteric system such as the pyridine nucleus is a process which has led to many interesting compounds and some useful drugs2 We have made use of this principle in the preparation of the 2-pyridyl analog of the known analgesic Demerol (Meperidine).
