Abstract
Vol. 62 crystallized dimethyl ester. When the dilithium compound, however, was hydrolyzed, only pyrene could be isolated from the resulting solution, the dihydro hydrocarbon primarily formed being autoxidizable. It cannot be identical, therefore, with the stable 1, 2- dihydropyrene (I), obtained by Coulson3 by catalytic hydrogenation of pyrene.
