Abstract

In 1996, we reported the synthesis of (+)-xestoquinone (3) (Figure [1] ) using an asymmetric intramolecular palladium-catalyzed polyene cyclization (4 → 5, Scheme [1] ) as the key step. [6] Due to their similar scaffolds, we decided to use this key reaction towards the synthesis of viridin (Scheme [1] ).
