Abstract

The condensation of benzaldehyde with 2-nitropropane, using an adaptation of Kamlet's procedureIa gave only poor yields (8-12%) of the nitro alcohol (I) whereas substantially higher yields were obtained when the condensation was carried out with sodium ethoxide in alcohol.
