Abstract

The title compound showing mp 226–229° C (decomp) and [α] D 20+ 190°(CH 3 OH) was synthesized by two different synthetic routes and fully characterized by its spectral properties. These studies suggested that the compound previously claimed to be 4- demethoxyadriamycin hydrochloride, mp 186–188° C (decomp), might be (+)-14-formyloxy- 4-demethoxydaunorubicin hydrochloride.
