Abstract

A variety of benzylidene sugars containing vicinal trichloroacetimidoyl groups have been oxidized by N-bromosuccinimide, to ascertain which structural features are necessary for neighbouring group participation from the iminoester in the opening of the transitory benzoxonium ion.
