Abstract

A convenient and somewhat general procedure which we have developed for the synthesis of succinic acids of the type HOOC-CR2-CHz-COOH is described here as applied to seven examples. The procedure, which consists of two laboratory steps, takes place according to the equations (a) R&= O f NC-CH2-COOC2Hs ____f CsHsN. HOAc (b) I f KCN+
