Abstract
THE bicyclic monoterpene ketone, ~,H,O carone (III), has not been found in nature, but in view of the wide distribution of the related hydrocarbons, AS- and Akarenes, it may be present in essential oils. Baeyerl prepared this ketone by treatment of dihydrocarvone hydrobromide (II) with an alcoholic solution of potassium hydroxide at 0”; elimination of hydrogen bromide occurs with the formation of the saturated bicyclic ketone.
