Abstract

The catalytic activity of onium compounds was studied in the homogeneous liquid phase oxidation of cumene and α-pinene. The onium salts, particularly sulfonium, phosphonium, selenonium, arsonium and telluronium were found effective. This result is connected to the fact that the central atom in these onium has vacant d orbitals. Among the anions of the onium salts tested, phosphate and sulfate were most effective.
