Abstract

Halogen-metal exchange between (-)-(R)-l-bromo-l-methyl-2, 2-diphenylcyclopropane and n- amylsodium yielded upon carbonation (+)-(R)-l-methyl-2, 2-diphenylcyclopropanecarboxylic acid (optical purity, 46%!,(+)-(S)-l-methyl-2, 2-diphenylcyclopropane (optical purity, 83%), and (-)-(R)-n-pentyl-l-methyl-2, 2-di-phenylcyclopropane (optical purity, 66%) with over-all retention of configuration.
