Abstract

Earlier work dealing with alkyl group migrations in the azulene series was reviewed in the previous paper. Isopropyl group migration, presumably due to interference between alkyl groups in the 1-and S-positions of the azulene nucleus, was observed when attempts were made to synthesize l-isopropyl-4, S-dmethyl-2 and 3-isopropyl-4, 5-dimethylazulene. a The present paper reports an analogous migration during the preparation of 1-isopropyl-8- ...
