Abstract

with AlCldtert-butyl chloride (Table 2, run 141, a mixture was obtained which consisted of 3- tert-butyl-1-methoxy-naphthalene (13)(31%), crystalline 3, 7-di-tert-butyl-1- methoxynaphthalene (14)(35%), and unchanged starting material (12%). None of the mono- 7-tert-butylated product (15) was observed. The NMR spectra of 13 and 14 were similar to those of 7 and 9, respectively.
