Abstract

The synthesis of several analogues of (±)-semivioxanthin including five thiophene analogues, using directed metalation are reported. The strategy consisted of the synthesis of functionalized naphthalene or benzo [b] thiophene as building blocks followed by annelation of the pyrone.
