Abstract

There are several common methods for the reduction of Schiff bases. Among them, the catalytic hydrogénation seems, in general, to be the most preferred, in part because of its neutral nature. In the present experiment, aluminum amalgam, which almost fits the neutral conditions, was found to be an effective agent for this reduction. The aluminum amalgam was easily made in the usual way.
