Abstract

CFaCHzOH has been prepared by Swarts' by reduction of trifluoroacetic anhydride under pressure, on a platinum catalyst. Although no one has ever voiced any doubt, this reduction has never been successfully repeated, due apparently to Swarts' failure appropriately to describe his catalyst.
