Abstract

Subsequent regie and stereoselective hydrogenation of the 4, 5 double bond with 5% Rh on carbon gave a single dihydro derivative 5. Elimination of methanesulfonic acid with the use of Sharpless' method followed by reduction of the carbonyl group and rearrangement gave racemic megaphone (1) characterized by its naturally occurring acetate (2).
