Abstract

Spectroscopic examinations of the bis (perchlorato) manganese (III) porphyrin cation radical 3 revealed an unprecedented spin transition. Complex 3 is a suitable synthetic precursor for the dichloromanganese (IV) porphyrin 4, which effects chlorination of dimedone, chlorodimedone, styrene, and norbornene by a radical pathway.
