Abstract
Many species of bacteria employ a mechanism of intercellular communication known as quorum sensing which is mediated by small diffusible signalling molecules termed autoinducers. The most common class of autoinducer used by Gram-negative bacteria are N- acylated-L-homoserine lactones (AHLs).
