Abstract

Our synthetic approach to these compounds relies on the methodology employed by Koelsch and Anthese in their original preparation of 1. Thus our work toward 2 began with the synthesis of a-methyl-l-cinnamoyl-2-methoxynaphthalene (4) which was obtained by standard met hods.
