Abstract: Solutions of (7-phenylnorbornyl) lithium,-potassium, and-cesium have been prepared in THF and the methods of sample preparation discussed. These benzylic ions are unstable at ordinary temperatures in ethereal solvent. The lithium derivative has been shown to be pyramidal by low-temperature carbon-13 NMR spectroscopy.
