Abstract Fosmidomycin is a promising antimalarial compound with a novel mode of action, the inhibition of 1-deoxy-d-xylulose 5-phosphate reductoisomerase, a key enzyme in the biosynthesis of isoprenoids through the nonmevalonate pathway.
