Abstract
Simple aromatic compounds such as benzene, alkylbenzenes, halogenobenzenes, and some disubstituted benzenes are nitrated in excellent yields with high regioselectivity under mild conditions using zeolite β as a catalyst and a stoichiometric quantity of nitric acid and acetic anhydride.
