Abstract
4-Acylpyrrole-2-carboxylic esters 1 are useful intermediates for the synthesis of a wide range of pyrrolic compounds. The acylation of pyrrole-2-carboxylic esters is most easily achieved by using acid chlorides, catalyzed by Lewis acids such as SnCl 4 . 2 The use of trifluoroacetic anhydride (TFAA) to produce mixed anhydrides for use in acylation chemistry is well-known 3 and the use of phosphoric acid as a catalyst in TFAA/mixed anhydride chemistry was first described by ...
