Abstract

Highlights ► Silver ions and silver nanoparticles affect neurotransmitters in rat brain. ► Silver ions and silver nanoparticles induce apoptosis in vitro by both death receptor and mitochondrial pathways. ► Silver ions and 14nm silver nanoparticles seem to have similar neurotoxic mechanisms.
