Abstract
This oxidation, albeit in the presence of formaldehyde, is perhaps not so surprising considering the ease of oxidation of 1, 5-diphenylthiocarbazide to dithizone. The structure of (VI; R= H) was confirmed by oxidation with chromic acid to the known thiadiazolinone3 (VII). The phenyl derivative of (VI; R= Ph) was also prepared from 1, 5-diphenylthiocarbazide by reaction with benzaldehyde.
