Abstract
NOTES 5165 ketone, 6-ethyl-2-methyl-4-octen-3-one (IV), was obtained as the main product in 47% yield; the structure of IV was confirmed by ozonolysis of it to a-ethylbutyric and isobutyric acids. The ketol, 6-ethyl-5-hydroxy-2-methyl-3-octanone (111), obtained in 6.5% yield, gave a 75% yield of IV when heated with iodine (86% water of dehydration).
