Metabolism and distribution of 2,4-dimethylphenol in rat.

Abstract

The concentration of 2,4-DMP was determined for several tissues of the rat by gas chromatographic methods after 6 hr constant intravenous infusion and after intravenous bolus injection. 2,4-DMP was distributed rapidly in the brain and liver. It has higher tissue-plasma concentration ratios for the brain, liver, and fat. Accumulation of 2,4-DMP in these tissues appears to be negligible. 2,4-DMP is rapidly metabolized to its conjugates (94.3%) within 30 min; gluronide constitutes 53% and other conjugates 41%.
