Abstract

Highlights ► MAPK/ERK1/2 and calpain inhibitors attenuated the lactacystin-induced cell death in primary cortical neurons. ► Protection mediated by MAPK/ERK1/2 and calpain inhibitors were connected with attenuation of lactacystin-evoked DNA fragmentation without affecting the caspase-3 activity. ► The protective effects of MAPK/ERK1/2, but not calpain inhibitors were connected with attenuation of AIF protein level in cytosolic and nuclear fraction.
