Abstract
VI1 XI XI1 XI11 with the product obtained by the action of sul-furic acid upon 5, 5'- dichlorodiphenic acid (VI). Experiments undertaken to elucidate such an unexpected result have now led to the further discovery that 1, 6-dichlarofluorenone (XI) and 18- dichlorofluorenone (XII) are converted to 3, 6-dichlorofluorenone (XIII) on heating in concentrated sulfuric acid.
