Abstract

Summary 1. The interaction of twelve extremely weak acids and the corresponding sodium or potassium compounds has been studied in anhydrous ether. From the results of these metatheses, it is possible to arrange the acids in a scale of increasing strength. The use of this scale in estimating the strength of other very weak acids is illustrated by a consideration of aniline.
