Abstract

Abstract A new quantitative method to prepare the perfluoroalkyl ethanol (RF CH 2 CH 2 OH) via an organometallic route is described. The iodoperfluoroalkyl ethane (RF CH 2 CH 2 I) reacts with the metallic zinc-copper couple in particular solvents, especially butyl phosphate. The oxidation of the organozinc compound RF CH 2 CH 2 ZnI leads to an alcohol.
