Abstract
A dehydrohalogenation side reaction markedly decreases the yield in the esters obtained from a carboxylate ion and a halogenated derivative in alkaline media (1). This drowback can however be avoided in phase transfer catalysis as the carboxylate ion is suspended in the organic solvent containing the halogenated derivative (1).
