Abstract
Summary: A readily prepared, nonnucleophilic, strongly basic mixture of potassium diisopropylamide-lithium tert-butoxide (KDA) rapidly deprotonates both 1-(phenylse1eno) alkenes (1) and bis (phenylse1eno) acetals (3); in contrast, neither lithium diisopropylamide nor potassium bis (trimethylsily1)-amide were able to deprotonate these compounds at a perceptible rate. The deprotonation-alkylation of both 1 and 3 is described.
