Abstract

We have shown'that m-diphenylbenzene can be obtained readily from the ethyl enol ether of dihydroresorcinol in three steps. In the course of this work it became apparent that a general method had become available for the synthesis of diarylbenzenes. This paper is the report of the extension of these reactions for the preparation of complex m-diarylbenzenes.
