Abstract

Of the numerous methods available for effecting ring closure of p-arylpropionic or y- arylbutyric acid derivatives to cyclic ketones, the intramolecular Friedel-Crafts reaction of the acid chloride with aluminum chloride promises to be particularly useful for acids like pp- methoxyphenylpropionic acid, which are resistant to cyclization due to unfavorable reactivity of the aromatic nucleus.
