Abstract
Abstract α-(Phenylthio) alkylboranes, which are easily prepared by two different homologation processes, are deboronated by N-chlorosuccinimide in mildly basic methanol to form monothioacetals or, with excess reagent, dimethyl acetals. Both boronic esters and trialkylboranes react, the latter considerably faster.
